Conducts daily experimental research lab work in lung and vascular biology and assists the PI to manage the lab including ordering. Assists in designing and carrying out experiments, collecting and analyzing data, maintaining mouse colonies, keeping careful record, presenting data in lab meeting, and publishing papers. The Rowley lab at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital and Northwestern University Medical School is seeking a motivated individual for the position of Post-Doctoral Research Associate. The main focus of the Rowley laboratory is the etiology/pathogenesis of Kawasaki disease, and the lab seeks a post-doctoral researcher with experience in immunology and molecular biology to move forward exciting preliminary studies of the etiology of Kawasaki disease. The Rowley lab also studies B cell (plasmablast) responses to infection and autoimmune diseases. The Post-Doctoral Associate will design and conduct research in collaboration with Dr. Rowley, performing experiments, data analysis, and preparation of manuscripts for publication. The anticipated studies would include flow cytometry with single cell isolation; RNA and DNA extraction and purification; sequencing data analysis; cell culture, transfection, and protein isolation; histologic studies of paraffin-embedded tissue sections including immunohistochemistry; and immunoblotting. The Advanced Center for Translational Genetic Medicine (ACT-GeM) is a new unit within the the Stanley Manne Children’s Research Institute aimed at bringing to fore cutting-edge discovery that can transform the lives of young patients and their families. Our work ranges from basic pathomechanisms of human genetic disease to the complementation of such observation toward the development of new therapeutic modalities.   Postdoctoral fellows will be expected to join a vibrant, multidisciplinary team to forward the mission of ACT-GeM, while at the same time gaining training that will help in launching their careers as independent investigators.   Functioning with progressively greater independence, Postdoctoral Associates design, organize and conduct highly specialized and advanced experiments using established scientific protocols and procedures and, in some cases, designing new protocols; publish results in research journals; assume general responsibility for scientific operations of the laboratory; provide supervision and guidance to junior technicians, students, and researchers.

The Director of Biorepository is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the institutional biorepository. Responsible for developing, implementing, maintaining and monitoring policies and procedures for the biorepository, including quality, safety, and traceability of biospecimens and related data. Ensures compliance with federal, state, institutional, safety, and IRB policies and requirements. Monitors test analyses and specimen examinations to ensure that acceptable levels of analytic performance are maintained. Maintains excellent public relations for all biorepository services. Provides leadership and supervisory oversight for biorepository personnel and reviews technical operations ensuring that all processes, protocols and procedures are quality controlled and functioning up to standards. Oversees the educational needs of investigators, research staff, and clinical research professional staff on biobanking services and policies. Reports to the COO, Stanley Manne Children’s Research Institute and the Chair, Department of Pathology.
