Cardiac CRNAs are well respected members of an elite multidisciplinary team. Their clinical case load includes cath lab, EP, and the CV OR. Cardiac CRNAs have a wide scope of practice which includes cardiac bypass management, single ventricle palliation, central line placement, and VAD management. This team manages the anesthesia care for children with congenital heart disease having noncardiac surgery and imaging as well. As one of the busiest heart transplant centers in the world Lurie’s Heart Center offers the opportunity of a CRNA pediatric cardiac career. The team is hiring for a growth mindset and looking for dedicated people to embrace the supportive team culture. This role is 4 days per week. One day per week is a rotating first call shift. The first call CRNA stays until cases are finished and then takes overnight home call with a subsequent postcall day off. Daily coverage varies from 8-12 hours without a fixed schedule – assignment dependent.

General Summary of Position Responsibility: As a member of the pediatric palliative care team at Lurie Children’s, the ideal candidate will work in a highly collaborative setting within the division to provide consultative support to primary medical teams. The individual will care for children from birth through adulthood transition of care with a large variety of potentially life limiting diagnoses including cancer, heart disease, metabolic/genetic disorders, neuromuscular and neuro-degenerative conditions. Responsibilities include managing complex symptoms, supporting identification and use of coping strategies, exploring and delineating goals of care, and facilitating medical decision-making – including those decisions around offered interventions and limitations. The Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) works in Preventative Cardiology within the multidisciplinary clinical team to provide individualized patient care through history and physical assessment, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, medication ordering, prescribing and management, formulating diagnoses and patient/family education. Six (6) month Fellowship - training program for APN to determine expertise in the recognition, evaluation, and acute and long term management of acute neurologic insults including but not limited to : traumatic brain injury, stroke, refractory status epileptics, auto immune and demyelinating disorders, CNS infections , metabolic, neuromuscular disorders, and neurologic complications of critical illness. In addition to consult service in the ICU, the training will include rotations in neurosurgery, pediatric critical care, rehabilitation and adult neuroscience/stroke. This position will be for six months, at the end of the fellowship employment will be terminated. Advanced Practice Nurse / LIP works within the multidisciplinary clinical team to obtain further knowledge in the specialty of Neuro Critical Care S/he will learn evidenced based practice by conducting or participating in research and academic activities. S/he will learn to support nursing and leadership to promote the advancement of the nursing profession at Lurie Children's and in the community-at-large. The Advance Practice Provider (APP) works collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to provide individualized ICU care. The APP will facilitate this by functioning as the frontline provider on the ICU team, obtain history and physical assessments, order/interpret labs, perform bedside procedures, formulate diagnoses and treatment plan, and provide family education. Additional responsibilities include ventilator management, vasopressor titration, ECMO and CRRT management, post-operative care (examples-not limited to: airway reconstruction, kidney/liver/intestinal transplants, spinal fusions), and in-hospital care of chronically ventilated children. The APP will independently attend hospital-wide critical assessment team calls.
