  • Overview

    General Summary of Position Responsibility:          

    Under the general supervision of the Clinical Director (M.D, D.O. or PH.D) or designee provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment of respiratory related sleep disorders.  This may involve polysomnography, with ventilator and PAP titration.


    Essential Job Functions:

    1. Monitors, and maintains mechanical ventilators, continuous positive pressure devices, oxygen, and humidity devices.
    1. Assesses patients and diagnostic data in order to adjust ventilator and PAP settings per protocol.
    1. Assesses and evaluates the patient’s respiratory care in consultation with physicians, nurses and other health care personnel.
    1. Possesses adept clinical skill in manipulating ventilators and PAP therapy equipment.
    1. Troubleshoots basic ventilator and PAP therapy equipment.
    1. Scores clinical events ( such as respiratory events, cardiac events, limb movements, arousals etc.) according to protocols
    1. Maintains all equipment in good working order, including oversight of all repairs and scheduled preventive maintenance.
    1. Collaborates with team members to formulate a plan of care related to identify patient problems and desired outcomes.
    1. Evaluates the patient’s progress through continuous observation and assessment of responses to interventions.
    1. Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients, families, co-workers and others.


    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    1. Graduate of an AMA approved advanced practice respiratory care registry program required.
    1. Licensed by the State of Illinois as a Respiratory Care Practitioner required.
    1. PALS Certification within the first year of employment required.
    1. RPSGT preferred.
    1. Comply with BRPT standards of conduct.
    1. Basic Life Support Certification required.
    1. Basic computer and typing skills required. Familiarity with MS excel and word (preferred)
    1. Ability to effectively communicate with patients/families, physicians and hospital staff.
