    This position will support the 5 year road map pain initiative and oversee the APNS on the Anesthesia Pain team .


    Manages the daily functions of complex outpatient clinic operations in the Department of Anesthesia and with an interdisciplinary team. Supervises, manages, and recruits Advanced Practice Providers in department/division office and/or other outpatient clinic locations.  Works with multidisciplinary team of physicians, faculty, and staff to maintain an environment that encourages customer service and promotes employee satisfaction. Promotes integration and development of research infrastructure to help build a Pain Center of Excellence. Collaborates with leadership to help guide and develop long-term strategy and growth of pain program through tracking of clinical, usage, and other identified metrics. Assists with preparation and analysis of financial and statistical information to aid in decision-making. Actively supports Lurie Children’s continuous improvement in safety, quality and customer service, through behavior modeling and by provision of work environment conducive to attaining these goals. Provides support to the Advanced Practice Providers and nursing staff promoting the advancement of the nursing profession. Provides professional development opportunities for APP staff; evaluates individual performance planning and improvement. 


    1. Oversees and assists in development of a comprehensive interdisciplinary Pain Care Center Program. Which will involve research based clinical enterprise expansion and utilize evidence-based pain care strategies that are founded upon a biopsychosocial model of pain care.
    2. Leads clinical operations and provides administrative and clinical leadership to provide expert care in for Anesthesia inpatients and ambulatory clinics at Lurie Children’s and outreach sites.
    3. Works with Advanced Practice staff to plan and provide essential coverage for daily operations. Ensures for the provision of efficient and effective high-quality patient care.
    4. Manages and monitors APP performance planning and improvement process.
    5. Facilitates and coordinates the development of department protocols/policies and guidelines for the continuity of care amongst the specialty/areas with in Anesthesia.
    6. Facilitates a consistent orientation process and documentation of achievements amongst new hires and experienced staff.
    7. Promotes the advancement of the Advanced Practice profession at Lurie Children’s both locally and nationally, which may include publication, participation in professional organizations, obtaining certification in specialty area and supporting the education and staff development of the nursing staff.
    8. Collaborates with Senior Leadership and Practice Manager on budget preparation and monitoring of monthly variance. Makes recommendations for budget adjustments based on analyzed data and change in practice or trends when appropriate.
    9. Participates in research design, implementation and interpretation.
    10. Meets the Medical Staffs Allied Health Practitioners core measures of performance related to patient care, medical knowledge, practice based learning and improvement, interpersonal communication skills, professionalism, and system based practice.
    11. Facilitates meeting regulatory requirements and accreditation standards to ensure compliance with federal, state, local, law and accreditation requirements (e.g. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), IL Department of Public Health Hospital Licensing Act (IDPH), Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH) and The Joint Commission (TJC).
    12. Ensures that all external licensure and accreditation standards are met in accordance with the requirements and reporting standards for all Federal, State, Local and other regulatory agencies.
    13. Ensures that evidence-based professional standards of practice are developed, understood, implemented and evaluated.
    14. Assesses productivity measures and standards and collaborates with APP’s and physician staff to improve productivity, patient access to care and throughput.
    15. Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients, families, co-workers and others.
    16. Collaborates with APP Leadership team to ensure and promote “ top of License practice for all APP’s
    17. Maintains clinical practice to remain current in professional practice issues and engage in patient care activities and needs.
    18. Conducts and oversees marketing and business analysis related to divisional activities to ensure division goals are met as established
    19. Partners with Flling, Coding and Compliance to maximize revenues.


    1. Master’s degree from an accredited school of nursing; APN required, NP certification required.
    2.  Three years of clinical experience.
    3.  Licensure to practice in the State of Illinois
    4.  Working knowledge of current AAP guidelines for preventive care of children.
    5.  Previous leadership experience preferred.
    6.  Strong communication skills in order to address patients/families, physicians and hospital staff.
    7.  Strong organizational and problem solving skills to manage complex processes and relationships in an evolving role while working with a diverse workforce.
    8.  Ability to advance knowledge base through self-directed learning to maintain competency in the leadership role.
    9.  Knowledge of regulatory compliance expectations and standards.
    10.  Excellent communication skills.
