  • Overview

    The Sr. Performance Improvement Consultant leads quality improvement work over larger scopes, departments and corporate projects or initiatives. This position will be internal consultant for all levels, with emphasis on larger projects and/or complex improvements that expand beyond point improvements to system improvements. Sr. Performance Improvement Consultant will coach and mentors staff in and out of team on a more formal basis on improvement techniques, mind set and planning improvements. This position will be responsible for implementing broader, more complex improvements focused on organizational goal alignment and breadth of impact. Partners with leaders and teams, functioning as a high level consultant able to take ambiguous problems assessing the right approach, while breaking it down into meaningful scopes to facilitate improvements. Coaches leaders on methods of implementation and sustaining gains.

     

    Sr. Performance Improvement consultant establishes strong working relationships with interdisciplinary members of the health care team including the medical staff, nursing and other operational areas, administration, and support services by directing and coaching to successful achievement of identified goals. Co-chairs or sits on organizational committees to provide the improvement mindset and alignment with goals. The Senior Performance Improvement Consultant works closely with Senior Leadership as a lead facilitator in improvement activities that are strategically aligned with organizational goals, along with creating an improvement mindset. Provides facilitation and coaching on multiple improvement areas that span across departments impacting the system, not just point improvements. This position reports to Director of Performance Improvement.

     

    Responsibilities

    1. Functions with a high level of knowledge in Performance Improvement with the ability to coach and teach more than one technique due to hands on experience providing recommendations on approach, timelines, methods and sustainability
    2. Partners with multidisciplinary teams and leaders to execute and drive system level and/or complex improvement opportunities ranging from large to medium size scopes from idea thru supporting leaders with the improvement project life cycle ensuring successful hand off to Leaders.
    3. Manages point improvements that connect with system improvements and has the ability to breakdown these opportunities into a plan with stakeholders
    4. Applies strategic thinking thru process and data details in driving projects, improvements and coaching/mentoring teams/people
    5. Serves as an organizational Change Agent, thought leader and high-quality advocate able to identify and communicate the connection with performance improvement, safety, quality, patient family experience and informatics
    6. Supports teams in defining system wide or organizational strategies for implementing improvements and cultivate a climate of problem solving
    7. Aligns organizational goals thru department and project while communicating these connections within project teams and tracks results, updating and monitoring dashboards related to improvements
    8. Serves as a consultant to departments and committees to assist with project planning and management, including scoping, process mapping, data definition, data analysis, and data display
    9. Utilizes adult learning principles to provide process improvement education to all levels of the organization including employees, partners, leadership, medical staff and residents
    10. Plans and facilitates workshops for operational and clinical hands-on application of performance improvement concepts
    11. Gives dynamic, succinct presentations to leaders and other organizational entities on the progress and         outcomes of improvement initiatives and improvement methodology.

    Qualifications

    1. Bachelor’s degree in healthcare related discipline, business, engineering, organizational development, behavioral science or related field required. Master’s degree preferred.
    2. 5+ years of experience facilitating, coaching on techniques, hand on experience & managing small thru large scale projects implementing improvements utilizing improvement methodology required, within healthcare or service related environment utilizing formal methodologies i.e. Lean, Model for Improvement, Six Sigma, et al.
    3. Applied improvement techniques (Lean, Model for Improvement preferred) across multiple disciplines, departments encompassing different roles and levels of authority while influencing change without direct authority.
    4. Experience leading/facilitating small thru large scale improvement projects or initiatives varying in size, scope and complexity through lifecycle, including training on problem solving and improvement techniques to obtain goals and buy in.
    5. Demonstrated experience with change management, coaching and conflict resolution with roles at varying levels having the ability to connect people, process and tools.
    6. Strong communication and presentation skills, written and oral, while connecting with different styles.
    7. Demonstrated ability to pull together a diverse group of teams that implement and sustain improvements
    8. Experience utilizing & training improvement tools and techniques with a variety of styles and departments.
    9. Demonstrated ability to oversee and partner on improvements over multiple departments
    10. Strong organizational, project management & conflict resolution skills
    11. Ability to identify problems that connect with a larger picture to drive improvements aligned with vision.
    12. Strong data analysis skills, utilizes formulas & creates graphs for compelling presentations and improvement discussions.
    13. Microsoft Office Applications, Epic. Intermediate to Advanced Excel experience
    14. Change agent, challenges the status quo. Able to function positively with a high level of ambiguity.
