  • Overview

    The Lurie Children’s Healthy Communities team is responsible for aligning the Medical Center’s clinical, research and education expertise with its community outreach initiatives. This team provides oversight for the development and implementation of Community Health Needs Assessment and Implementation Plans and partners with leaders across the Medical Center to work towards an overall goal of improving health equity for children in Chicago.


    The Employee Volunteer Coordinator will serve as the point person for employees and physicians who are interested in volunteer opportunities that align with the mission of the hospital. This 0.5 FTE part-time position will help Lurie Children’s meet both employee/physician engagement and community outreach goals through excellent communications, organization and service to our staff.


    1. Partners with Lurie Children’s Healthy Communities, Volunteer Resources and Human Resources leaders to develop and implement a strategy to engage employees and physicians interested in volunteering in the community through the hospital.
    2. Enthusiastically communicates volunteer opportunities to employees and physicians using appropriate vehicles, including presentations, global emails, message boards, and the AllConnect intranet site.
    3. Serves as liaison between Lurie Children’s and partner organizations in the community that have volunteer opportunities for employees aligned with hospital mission.
    4. Develops and implements survey and database system to track employee and physician volunteer engagement.
    5. Provides coordination and logistical support for Lurie Children’s Community Volunteer Corps and employee volunteering with Chicago Youth Programs.
    6. Helps to create and provide staffing for new “Helping Hands” Employee Volunteer Committee.
    7. Prepares written status and summary reports pertaining to the progress, outcomes, and impact of employee and physician volunteer activities neighborhood-based activities.
    8. Assists Healthy Communities team with implementation and evaluation of the Healthy Communities strategic plan related to Employee Engagement, ensuring alignment with the Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) and organizational goals and mission.

    1. Bachelor's degree required. An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered in lieu of the degree when the experience has been directly related to the duties of the job.
    2. At least 3 years of relevant work experience required. Hospital work experience preferred.
    3. Strong project management experience and organizational skills required.
    4. Flexibility to work on evenings and weekends.
    5. Excellent interpersonal and oral/written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to collaborate with people from diverse backgrounds and disciplines.
    6. Demonstrated ability to work in a large, complex environment.
    7. Commitment to health equity, diversity and inclusion, evidence-based policy, data-driven advocacy and community-driven processes.
    8. Ability to take initiative and work independently.
