  • Overview

    The role is responsible for supporting the development, implementation, management, coordination & sustainability planning of Sexual Health Education programming for schools and community organizations in the Chicago area.


    Essential Job Functions:

    1. Coordinates with the Division’s Program Manager to ensure programmatic goals for the Lurie Children’s Sexual Health Education Program are being met.
    2. Provides support to the Division’s health educators, including ensuring staff receive and keep current all appropriate trainings and regularly participating in outreach and educational sessions.
    3. In collaboration with the Adolescent Medicine Community Outreach Coordinator, maintains collaborations with community providers and practitioners conducting sex and health education in the Chicago region.
    4. Identifies funding opportunities through which the Division’s Sexual Health Education programming can be sustained and grown.
    5. Attends and promotes Lurie Children’s Sexual Health Education programming at community events, health fairs, and school meetings. Maintains regular contact with local schools and community partners.
    6. With the support of the Program Manager, manages budget and expenses for the Division Sexual Health Education programming.
    7. Supports the ongoing review and implementation of Sexual Health Education Program materials. Schedules and facilitates Sexual Health Education sessions.
    8. Assist Program Manager in developing marketing materials, website content, and other collateral which will help promote the Sexual Health Education Program among schools and community organizations.
    9. Coordinates with schools and community organizations to implement Sexual Health Education curriculum.
    10. Monitors and orders prevention education materials as needed. This includes pamphlets, condoms, etc.
    11. Ensures that evaluations are conducted and recorded during all Sexual Health Education sessions.
    12. Participates in Division and hospital meetings as needed.
    13. Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients, families, co-workers and others.


    1. Bachelor’s degree in health education, public health or related field required. Advanced degree preferred.
    2. HIV and STI testing certification preferred.
    3. Experience coordinating efforts of a community engaged team.
    4. Minimum of 3 years related work experience preferred
    5. Demonstrate fluency and clarity in written and oral communication. Demonstrate knowledge of programmatic scopes, including the ability to present the project objectives fluently.
    6. Experience facilitating curriculum classroom settings.
    7. Ability to establish priorities and react promptly to a large variety of requests and needs, sometimes in stressful situations.
    8. Demonstrated ability to function as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Strong organizational and communication skills.
    9. Valid State of Illinois driver’s license with access to reliable transportation in order to attend and/or facilitate off-site educational programs.
    10. Fluency in Spanish preferred.
