  • Overview

    The Behavioral Research Associate Senior assists the Principal Investigator within the Smith Child Health Research Group with the day-to-day activities of behavioral research studies. This Behavioral Research Associate-Senior will work primarily on studies related to the improved management of asthma through education and regular monitoring of patient inhaler use. This individual will also work on studies related to the prevalence and distribution of pediatric and adult food allergy.


    1. Participates in IRB human subjects training and maintains appropriate professional competencies. Attends training on the protection of human subjects during the first 6 months of employment and as required thereafter.
    2. Actively recruits the target population into the study per the study protocol(s).
    3. Coordinates and schedule meetings with community partners, as needed, to facilitate community-based recruitment and collaboration.
    4. Maintain databases and other records of all recruitment activities.
    5. Screens interested participants for study eligibility and schedules participants for enrollment and follow-up visits.
    6. Retains enrolled research participants through reminder calls, letters, email contact and other activities per study protocol and procedures.
    7. Assists in the development and modification of study protocols and procedures, as needed.
    8. Assists in the development, implementation, and tracking of studies with minimal supervision.
    9. Gathers patient-related medical information from Electronic Medical Records and outside physicians/institutions as necessary. Adheres to guidelines regarding honest reporting of sensitive and confidential clinical and administrative information.
    10. Provides back-up and support for all project areas.
    11. Adhere to highest level of participant and patient confidentiality.
    12. Complete other duties as assigned.


    1. Bachelor's degree in a social science or related field required.
    2. At least 2 years of experience in behavioral program or research experience preferred.
    3. Knowledge and skill with Electronic Medical Records, word processing, spreadsheet, e-mail, database, presentation, and desktop publishing software applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint, Publisher, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop)
    4. Skill and ability to communicate verbally and in writing with a variety of audiences
    5. Skill and ability to prioritize, organize, and handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
    6. Ability to exercise independent judgment in making decisions and solving problems
