  • Overview

    General Summary of Position Responsibility:       

    Supports data entry and data management supporting HIV/AIDS research and public health service programs (IMPAACT, PHACS, multiple clinical trials, CDCPH and IDPH programs), and industry sponsored research programs, following guidelines and protocols issued by the sponsors’ data centers.  Performs data tasks as assigned by program Principal Investigators, Department/Section leadership, and research team leads.  Establishes and maintains quality control and quality assurance procedures for assigned data. Works with other team members in an integrated team approach to research study implementation and problem solving. Understands and integrates research role with the delivery of patient care and supports the Hospital and departmental quality and customer service goals.

    Responsibilities

    Essential Job Functions:

    Data Entry and Data Management

    • Enters research or other sponsored program data in a timely manner as required by specific protocols or program requirements.
    • Coordinates data input with reporting schedules and prepares reports in compliance with predetermined schedules.
    • Communicates with department staff to ensure to timely data input and integrity.
    • Audits CRFs (case report forms) for accuracy of data completion and resolves any discrepancies with appropriate clinician or researcher.
    • Performs data queries and subject randomization.
    • Works with the Clinical Research Coordinators /research nurses to resolve data errors, communicates to determine rationale for delinquent data, and participates in problem resolution.
    • Assists with data extraction and interpretation from source documents as assigned, records data on case report forms.
    • Coordinates and participates in periodic reviews and sponsor monitor visits by making available raw data files, documentation trails, and CRFs as requested by visiting monitors.
    • Maintains compliance with required clinical research training in human subjects protections, HIPAA training and internal policies, and good clinical practice.

    Development

    • Supports essential functions of data analysis, including data aggregation, preparation of files from various sources for linkage to databases or data analytics programs, and developing queries.
    • Manages simple to complex databases.

    Administration

    • Prepares data sets for archiving, including documentation. Assists with the short-term and long-term storage of research and public health service program data.
    • Coordinates tracking of research subject payment requests and reconciles payments and funds.
    • Proficient with standard business software, including Microsoft Office applications.

    Performance

    • Supports essential functions of quality metrics, including: cleans data; organizes data files; reviews data and identifies quality issues; presents findings in an appropriate manner; supports and participates in ongoing quality monitoring and improvement.
    • Works flexibly across multiple projects/disciplines and balance administrative skills with data management.
    • This individual in this position will be a member of a multi-disciplinary team and should be comfortable communicating with people from a variety of backgrounds, including investigators, co-investigators, clinical, administrative, and research staff. 

    Qualifications

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    1. Successful completion of a related course of study (health information, computer science, or research data management) in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's degree or professional certification. Equivalent professional experience may be considered.
    2. Minimum two years computer experience demonstrating skill in all aspects of data collection, organization and tracking.  Familiar with on-line data entry, database programs and query functions. Research experience preferred. 
    3. Demonstrated ability to manage data tasks on multiple projects.
    4. Ability to effectively prioritize, and maintain deadlines. 
    5. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Exceptional attention to detail.  Excellent documentation skills and habits. 
    6. Capacity to proactively identify and solve problems. 
    1. Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently under minimal supervision while being an essential part of a team.
