  • Overview

    General Summary of Position Responsibility:     

    Under the general supervision of the clinical director (M.D., D.O. or PH.D) or designee provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders. This may involve polysomnography, diagnostic and therapeutic services, patient care, and education. 

    Essential Job Functions:

    1. Performs all portable, attended and unattended, polysomnographic studies. Scores records accurately within specified time limits.
    2. Oversees equipment maintenance and the ordering of appropriate supplies.
    3. Communicates with staff concerning any problems which arise concerning the completion of sleep studies.
    4. Assists team leader and senior technologist with training and continuing educational programs/in-services.
    5. Assists in the development of policies and procedures for sleep medicine center.
    6. Works closely with department secretarial staff to insure proper scheduling of patients.
    7. Performs all other duties as necessary, as assigned by team leader or senior technologists.
    8. Role will travel/support the Grayslake sleep medicine site as needed

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Two years clinical work experience in polysomnography.
    • Licensed by the State of IL as a Respiratory Care Practitioner

    • Ability to perform basic polysomnographic testing independently within three months of hire. 
    • Registered in infant and child CPR within three months. 
    • Basic pediatric scoring of sleep staging and respiratory events within six months.  Cleans and maintains all equipment and supplies in an appropriate manner. 
    • Completes all necessary paperwork in an accurate and timely manner.  Attends monthly Q/A meetings and at least two interdepartmental in-services per year.
    • Ability to bend, lift, push, and pull moderately heavy equipment and patients.  Ability to stand on feet for extended periods of time
