  • Overview

    The orthotist/prosthetist should be able to independently provide or supervise the provision of comprehensive orthotic care.  This includes patient assessment, formulation of a treatment plan, implementation of the treatment plan, follow-up and practice management. 


    1. Perform a comprehensive assessment of the patient to obtain an understanding of patient’s orthotic/prosthetic needs.Create a comprehensive orthotic/prosthetic treatment plan to meet the needs and goals of the patient. Perform the necessary procedures to deliver the appropriate orthotic/prosthetic services, including fabrication. Provide continuing patient care and periodic evaluation to assure/maintain/document optimal fit and function of the orthosis/prosthesis.
    2. Develop, implement, and/or monitor policies and procedures regarding human resource management, physical environment management, business/financial management, and organizational management. 
    3. Assigns tasks to aides, and technicians as appropriate, providing pertinent information and supervision.
    4. Participates in supervision/ instruction of residents as assigned in coordination with senior staff/director.
    5. Participates in orientation of new staff and support staff as assigned in coordination with senior staff/director.


    1.  Certificate or degree in Orthotics and Prosthetics from a CAAHEP accredited orthotics/prosthetics program. 

    2.  Current Orthotic-Prosthetic License in the State of Illinois or eligible for licensure in the State of Illinois.

    3.  Minimum of two years of clinical orthotic-prosthetic experience.

    4.  One year pediatric orthotic-prosthetic experience preferred.

    5.  Ability to effectively communicate with Hospital/department staff and patients, parents, and community therapists.
