Research Technologist III (Neurology)

Participates in design & execution of research lab projects. Conducts experimental tests & procedures & processes & analyzes data. Reviews & revises existing research methodologies & may develop new methodologies, mathematical &/or computer models for predicting data. Ensures overall lab compliance with all associated rules & regulations.

Main study involves mitochondrial metabolism.  

1. Following overall research objectives, independently designs, plans, conducts & troubleshoots experiments.
2. Evaluates protocols & data obtained from groups of experiments & recommends changes to processes,

  procedures & techniques to improve quality & validity of results based upon overall project objectives.

3. Observes experiments, collects, records, summarizes, analyzes & interprets research data. Collates relevant

  mathematical results.

4. Prepares complex tables reflecting relationships of multiple tests.
5. Draws scientific conclusions.
6. Writes portions of grant applications.
7. Co-authors scientific papers.
8. Negotiates purchases with vendors. Maintains & updates portions of grant budgets.  Tracks & summarizes

  lab supply expenses. Verifies accuracy of invoices. 

9. Orders &/or maintains inventory of reagent, mice &/or lab supplies.
10. Trains & directs other lab EEs &/or students in research techniques & procedures
11. Other job functions as assigned.

1. Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in a scientific major or related; OR appropriate combination of education and experience and 3 years' lab/bench or other relevant experience required; OR Successful completion of a full course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a master's or higher degree in a scientific major or related; OR appropriate combination of education and experience and 1 year lab/bench or other relevant experience.
2. Working knowledge of computers, ability to troubleshoot, work independently, and function as a team member is essential. Therefore, experience in regular interaction with outside groups is highly desirable.
3. Excellent command of the English language and the ability to communicate effectively.
4. Strong organizational skills including the ability to establish priorities, react promptly to a large variety of requests, and the ability to keep the workplace clean and organized.
