The Sr. Director of Clinical Applications is responsible for leadership of staff and management of all Clinical Applications including EHR and EPIC . This position is responsible for maintaining, and monitoring information management systems and standards to support clinical, research and academic functions of the organization. Develops department objectives, establishes and communicates applications standards, identifies new application vendors and resources. In addition, is a key leader responsible for IM service delivery to Lurie Children’s. The Sr. Director builds and maintains effective client relationship strategies by facilitating communication between staff, management, vendors, and other technology resources within the organization to deliver and support application services.




  1. Provides overall direction and plan for support of all clinical applications in the enterprise.
  2. Must have a strong demonstrated  background in Epic and EHR management. 
  3. Builds and maintains a strong partnership and cohesive support with entire hospital community. Fosters teamwork and camaraderie among IM teams and assist with coordination of activities.
  4. Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients, families, co-workers and others.
  5. Develops enterprise application delivery strategies in conjunction with other IM leadership and business partners.
  6. Implement appropriate service delivery models for core application functions where the IM organization is a trusted adviser in defining, delivering, and improving services for the enterprise and its customers.
  7. Have overall responsibility or management of the implementation and ongoing maintenance of Epic applications, resolving issues in a timely fashion and ensuring that the technology meets clinical and business requirements.
  8. Ensure the development and implementation of standards and policies for evaluation, implementation, development and management across enterprise.
  9. Develop budgets and the expenditures for information services related to applications. Duties include operating and capital budget development in partnership with other IM leaders and customers.
  10. Coordinates with vendor the periodic upgrades of all clinical applications in conjunction with Technical Services Team.
  11. Assess with clinical department leadership how well systems are supporting their quality and overall clinical operational needs.
  12. Produces and implements annual plan for use of clinical applications with stakeholders.
  13. Supervises management team and application support staff assigned to clinical applications.
  14. Works with departments to garner support for operational improvements. Determines potential operational improvements for all implemented systems.
  15. Participates in strategic and tactical planning and assists with integration of specific departmental needs into the overall information management plan.
  16. Coordinates clinical application vendor relationships. Manages consultants involved in assigned projects.
  17. Provides periodic communication regarding progress and outcomes of activity to leaders in other organizational areas.
  18. Escalate critical issues, problems or delays in production, projects or any other issues that have an impact on the customer.
  19. The authority to hire, separate, promote, demote, write and administer performance evaluations.
  20. Other job functions as assigned.


  1. Bachelor’s degree in information technology or health care field. Master’s or experience in project management preferred.
  2. Excellent project management, change management and organizational skills. Able to organize and manage a project from initiation to implementation.
  3. Demonstrated experience leading and facilitating multi-disciplinary groups.
  4. Excellent written and verbal skills.
  5. Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to understand and articulate the needs of the customer and assist them in making the necessary decisions to accomplish their objectives.
  6. The ability to translate needs of the healthcare professionals into information management solutions.
  7. Thorough understanding of Lurie Children’s strategic initiatives to better manage customer expectations.
  8. Excellent analytical and process/systems thinking skills.
  9. Internal contacts include all departments and levels of the organization.
  10. External contacts include software vendors and consultants.
